The Wetlands: Sexy, Married and Naked!

When porno was chic

My first exposure to adult movies was Betamax tapes of late 70s and early 80s pornography. Transferred from film, it had a grainy, low-budget, dated look–but still patently hot and sexy. Today’s adult movies have the luster, but they don’t have the artistic quality that made golden age film of yesteryear great. Time magazine’s Richard Corliss has a great commentary that longs for the good old days of adult cinema:

“There’s a lot of porn out there. But nobody’s calling it art. Or even, technically, film. (The industry has been virtually all-video for a couple of decades.) Porn is a commodity, with no more pretension to art than the most mindless kiddie show. For the weary businessman it’s just a combination Viagra and Ambien.

How drab this seems compared to the heady days of the early 70s, when ‘There was something exciting about pornography,’ as Norman Mailer says in the new documentary Inside Deep Throat. ‘It lived in some mid-world between crime and art. And it was adventurous.’ Porn films preoccupied critics, cops and the courts. Often financed by Mafia families, they attracted the crusading instincts of local, state and federal prosecutors, who shut down the films and secured the conviction of one actor. They were directed by men who could fancy themselves as artists, and starred off-Broadway actors as well as the occasional gifted ingenue —like Linda Lovelace, star of the movie that created the craze (and the phrase) ‘porno chic,’ Deep Throat.”

Stale blog?

Hello again, everybody. Sorry about the blog getting a tad stale around here. It’s been a few weeks–and the cobwebs were starting to form here on the site. Our apologies. We’ve been in and out of town in the past couple of weeks, plus we’ve both been battling colds.

We’re going to try to get back in the regular routine of posting updates and photo galleries though. Drop us a note if there are any questions you’d like to see us answer here in the blog, or if there are any particular HW-related subjects you’d like to hear us comment about. Hope to hear from you!

Building the ‘better’ vagina

Detroit’s weekly alternative newspaper, Metro Times, has a great story on labiaplasty and laser vaginal rejuvenation. I’m just fascinated that this practice is becoming more and more commonplace. Have a look:

Starting at $4,500, a woman can have a labioplasty, in which her inner labia are cut and reshaped if she thinks they’re too large or asymmetrical. Or a woman can become “revirginized” and have an approximation of her hymen restored. (This is particularly popular among Middle Eastern women who need to “fake” their virginity before marriage.) And if she wants to combine more than one surgery, she can end up paying more than $10,000 for newer, tighter, prettier genitals.

This is the latest facet of cosmetic surgery — designer vaginas. Women have already nipped, tucked, implanted and vacuumed every other part of their bodies, and are now turning their perfection-obsessed eyes to their own genitals.
